"'Open Balkans' was described as a 'terrible idea'

Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke in an interview with Euronews Serbia about regional cooperation, relations with Serbia and Montenegro's progress on its European path.

During the interview , Rama commented on the cooperation with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, whom he said is always a difficult partner.

Among other things, he also spoke about the idea of ??the "Open Balkans", where he stated that it was considered a "terrible idea", only that he and Vu?i? were behind it.

"It was a terrible idea for one reason only: that Vu?i? and I were behind it. If you had taken our names and decided on, let's say, I don't know, five new names - it would have been a great idea. That's how it is with everything in the Balkans," Rama said.

The head of government also praised Montenegro's progress on the path towards integration into the European Union.

"Montenegro, congratulations to them, have been extraordinary in the way they have transformed themselves - from a smuggler's boat to the yellow submarine that everyone loves. I respect that. They have made extraordinary progress, but that is not enough ," he said.

Rama added that the Western Balkans and the European Union need each other today.

"I think that today Europe needs us as much as we need Europe," he concluded. /CNA
