Visit to the Vatican/ Rama at the Genazzano Basilica: No head of state had ever

Prime Minister Edi Rama has arrived in the Vatican where he will meet with the Holy Father Pope Leo.

Through a post on social media, Rama shared footage from his visit to the Genazzano basilica, where the statue of Our Lady of Good Counsel is located.

Rama writes that since the image of Our Lady was placed in this basilica, no Albanian head of state has set foot in the Basilica of Genazzano.

THE VISIT TO THE VATICAN for the meeting with the Holy Father began today from Genazzano, at the famous basilica, where the image of Our Lady of Good Counsel is located, on a piece detached from the wall of the Church of Shkodra in the distant year 1467.

Since then, no Albanian head of state or government has crossed the threshold of the basilica, where our national flag always stands next to Our Lady of Albania, and where almost all the Popes of Rome have performed visits and rituals. The first thing that Pope Leo XVI did as soon as he was elected was to come and pray in Genazzano to Our Lady of Albania, who is also called Regina di Albania - Queen of Albania.
