The Deputy Chairman of the Tirana Municipality Council, Dorjan Teliti, declared today that the opposition's goal is the final removal from office of the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.

In a statement to the media, the majority took 7 months to understand the problem with the delay in dismissing Veliaj.

"We are about 6 hours away from the Municipal Council meeting, regarding the well-known proposal proposed by the socialist majority to dismiss Veliaj, a proposal made by the opposition earlier, but it took the majority 7 months to understand that this is not being served, that Tirana is mired in corruption, that incinerators receive 1 million euros every month, that Tirana is dirty and traffic is heavy every day.

What the DP has accused today in this meeting is precisely the previous dismissal of Erion Veliaj, so that this act is legal.

Why is this our position? So that this dismissal does not become an instrument in the hands of Erion Veliaj to return to his post with a decision of the administrative court.

The opposition's goal is the final removal of Erion Veliaj from the leadership of the municipality and the imposition of the trauma of his return to office.

The recognizable decision taken today by the DP councilors to propose a known decision, that draft decision, was made with other violations, starting from the fact that Erion Veliaj several years ago, specifically in 2016, assumed the powers of the Municipal Council to sign a commitment of 93 million euros, while the law prohibits him from giving his signature even for economic aid without the council's decision.
