The leader of Nisa Thurje, Endri Shabani, reacted today after the closed-door meeting of the Tirana Municipality's Legal Affairs Committee.

In his speech to journalists, Shabani focused on discussions about the presence or absence of the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, at the meeting for his dismissal.

Shabani emphasized that the chronological fact shows that after several months in prison, Veliaj could be dismissed, but according to him, Veliaj should have resigned out of respect for public opinion.

"There is a chronological fact. Veliaj has been in prison since February 10. The law is clear that after 3 months of absence, he is dismissed. An hour of debate was held because the opposition's demands were not included. Today, the members of the Socialist Party came to their senses and are voting for our demands. There were no arguments, but it was not accepted that Veliaj come to the Municipal Council hall today. But the main role is played by the Prosecution. They had no arguments. In my opinion, there is no point in listening to Veliaj at the meeting. There is nothing to be heard about. He is in the conditions that he should resign to respect public opinion.
