The President of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting today with the foreign policy advisor to the CDU-CSU Parliamentary Group, Christian Forneck. After the meeting, Berisha spoke to the media, where he said that the discussions with Forneck were fruitful and that they were related to Albania's integration into the EU.

Berisha stated that the integration process should be based on merit. According to him, all possibilities exist for this to be realized, but not under the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama. According to him, the German Bundestag has also insisted that the integration process be based on merit.

"An integration process must be based on merit, it is the absolute interest of Albanian citizens. An Albania that is the epicenter of criminal organizations in Europe and the world, as described in several State Department reports, is a real threat to peace in Albania, the region and beyond. The conditions must be a merit-based process. All possibilities exist for this, but not with Edi Rama. It was a fruitful discussion.

The Bundestag is the parliament, which, as you know, has followed in the most serious and benevolent way the process of integration of the countries of the region into the EU. Even in times of greatest skepticism, this institution insisted that this process continue based on merit. Their 13-point demands for Belgrade have been a historical document. If Serbia had refrained, it would be in the EU. The 15-point plan for Albania, if it had been implemented, would be in the EU. Our effort is for the Bundestag to maintain this interest that it has had in this vital process for Albanians. Our main objective is integration into the EU ", said Berisha. /CNA
