SP/Kaso's legal initiative: Political operation for an untouchable Prime

Democratic MP Ivi Kaso has described the change proposed by the Socialist Party to the Criminal Procedure Code not simply as a technical intervention, but as a political operation.

Through a post on social media, Kaso emphasizes that this initiative aims to establish a shield against the prime minister and the government dome in the face of justice.

According to the democrat, Albania does not need an untouchable prime minister, as the country needs more than ever strong institutions and justice free from political pressure.

"The proposed amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code is not a technical intervention. It is a political operation to shield the Prime Minister and the government dome from justice."

When Edi Rama declares that the suspension of senior officials constitutes "interference in the constitutional territory of the executive branch," he is in fact proclaiming a dangerous doctrine: that the executive branch is territory untouchable by control mechanisms.

This contradicts every principle of the separation of powers and the very essence of Justice Reform.

The proposal to exclude the President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and ministers from the suspension measure creates a privileged caste of officials who, even if they are investigated for criminal offenses, continue to remain in office without any restrictions.

Suspension is not a punishment. It is a protective measure for the integrity of the investigation. Its lifting is a clear signal that the government seeks to remain above the law.

This initiative comes at a time when investigations against senior officials for major corruption are finally becoming a reality.

Changing the rules of the game, in the middle of the investigative process, is anything but reform – it is a pure attempt to save Belinda's head today and her boss's tomorrow when justice knocks on her door.

"Albania does not need an untouchable Prime Minister. Today, more than ever, it needs strong institutions and justice free from political pressure!", - Kaso says. /CNA
