"Republic of the Corrupt"/ Tabaku: Danger from the lack of in-depth

Democratic MP Jorida Tabaku said today that the lack of an in-depth financial audit in public institutions risks turning the country into a 'republic of the corrupt'.

In her speech to the Committee on Legal Affairs, Tabaku stated that in Albania, as in EU countries, critical digital infrastructure must be 100% under state control, due to the sensitivity of the data and the implications for national security.

"If an institution is accused of abuse and criminal connections, why is an in-depth financial, technical and security audit not carried out first? The lack of an audit creates strong suspicions that the reform aims to shift responsibility, not clarify it. Who will take care of national security? Who will take care of the data of Albanians that does not come to light? In European Union countries, critical digital infrastructure is 100% under state control, precisely because of the sensitivity of the data and the implications for national security. Transferring it to a hybrid public-private structure, without clear guarantees and without consultation with data protection authorities, constitutes a dangerous precedent. Laws that have turned parliament into a notary, she stressed, adding that this initiative is another step towards the institutionalization of impunity", - said Tabaku. /CNA
