Former MP: The opposition does not want the majority to take the credit for

Former Socialist Party MP Petro Koçi, speaking on television about the EU integration process, said that the process often becomes a victim of internal political debate.

Koçi said that the opposition thinks that integration is the merit of the majority alone and this has helped a lot.

The former MP stated that our country is now at a very important geostrategic moment, which transcends state interests and helps national interests.

" I think that the process often becomes a victim of internal political debate, because this creates a lot of misunderstandings. In a way, I don't necessarily want to blame the current opposition here, but any kind of opposition in Albania thinks that when you are at a moment of integration into an international structure, it seems as if the merit belongs only to that part that is in the government, that is, that is in position. I think that this has had a lot of influence.

If we consider what happened here, that the parliament was burned, the parliament chairs were burned, people fought with deputies, with officers of the guard, violent protests were held with flares and Molotov cocktails, which are never peaceful.

We are at a very important geostrategic step. We are realizing one of our ambitions with strategic interest for the country. In a way, it surpasses our state interests, it also helps our national interests. This is a process that is really very technical and I think that in this aspect, an extraordinary job has been done not only by the legislature, but especially by the groups that have been assigned to each department that deal directly with this process. Of course, there is a difference between realization, we are saying on paper and in laws, and their implementation , "said Koçi.
