Peleshi visits the Spanish Parliament/ Focus on EU integration and security

The Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, paid an official visit to Madrid, at the invitation of the President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, as part of parliamentary diplomacy to support Albania's accession process to the European Union.

In meetings with the Speaker of Parliament Armengol and the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Javier Maroto Aranzabal, Spanish officials reaffirmed Spain's support for Albania's European integration. Armengol praised our country's progress and determination on the path towards the EU and reconfirmed Spain's strong support.

While Aranzabal emphasized that the European Union becomes stronger with countries like Albania, with a clear European orientation and democratic values.

Speaker Peleshi expressed gratitude for Spain's constant support, emphasizing that it is based on Albania's concrete achievements and shared democratic values.

The Albanian delegation participated and was greeted in the plenary sessions of the Spanish Congress of Deputies and Senate.

During the meetings, the expansion of parliamentary cooperation and the exchange of experiences in the context of the European integration process, the harmonization of legislation with EU standards, as well as the strengthening of technical cooperation between the two parliaments were discussed.

The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries and marks the first visit of an Albanian speaker of parliament to Spain in nearly two decades.

The focus of the talks was also cooperation as NATO partner countries, to guarantee security, support for Ukraine, peace in the Middle East, the stance towards Iran, stability in the Western Balkans, and the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
