Knock as much as you want on the deaf door!

Metaphorically

A popular aphorism, a bitter metaphor for our reality: when faced with the futility, ineffectiveness, deafness of an action and those who do not want to listen, every knock remains simply an echo in the air. It does not matter how right you are, how many arguments you bring or how many times you repeat. The gate is closed, and inside it reigns the will not to listen.

Deafness, in this sense, is not a physical deficiency, but an attitude. Metaphorically, there are two sides that insist: the sender and the receiver, both of whom refuse to understand the situation, the passionate and logical argument, the indifference and the closure.

It is the choice to ignore, to not see reality, to not acknowledge any voice beyond oneself.

And so, the gate becomes a symbol of the one who does not dialogue, who does not move, who closes his ears.

At the gate of the deaf, knocks are no longer requests, but proof of futility. They speak more of the patience and persistence of the one who knocks, than of any hope that the door will open inside. In the end, the metaphor teaches one thing: "Not every effort brings results, not every word is understood. There are people who must be left in their silence and that there are doors on which one should not knock endlessly, because they were built precisely not to open."

In Albanian politics, there is a door that never opens: the door of the deaf. Citizens go there with their problems, intellectuals with their ideas, journalists with their questions, and everyone leaves just as they entered, empty-handed and with more disappointment. Because the door was not made to be opened, but to show that it exists.

You knock as much as you want: for salaries, for pensions, for corruption, for justice, for water and electricity. The gate looks at you with indifference, listens with closed ears and, at best, throws you some promise like a dog bone. The irony is that this gate is called a "democratic institution".

Those inside know well that the citizens are persistent. They will knock today, they will knock tomorrow. But instead of opening, the gate closes even more, with armored shutters, with security fences, with secretaries like Cerberus and with fake smiles. Because political and social deafness is not an accident, but a strategy: whoever does not listen, does not act and, when he does not act, does not bear responsibility.

You can knock on the deaf door as much as you want. Your knock does not serve to open the door, but to feed the illusion that there is someone inside who will perhaps open it. And so democracy turns into a farce: the citizen knocks, politics is silent, while the deaf door remains the greatest monument of the Albanian transition, of ridicule and of the facade that our voice has value and weight./ CNA
