The “GoFundMe” candidate

The “GoFundMe” candidate

The candidate is asking for donations from citizens, just like those who open a “GoFundMe” and beg for help because they don't have enough for medicine, food, or shelter. Only the difference is fundamental: the latter are asking for help to survive, while the candidate is asking for help to exist politically.

The candidate is not sick (God grant him health!), nor homeless, nor hungry. He is politically hopeless. A figurehead who seeks to give himself breath and popularity, while previously he used the Democratic Party for this purpose to collect registration signatures, seeks to give himself prestige, that is, with oxygen, why not with the money of the citizens.

But, if you don't have legs to dance, ears to listen, and you don't know how to keep the rhythm, don't get into dancing at all!

Because what started as a "citizen initiative" is ending after the publication of the CV and registration form as a ridiculous dance and the opposition electorate doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.

When a candidate asks for donations, not for a cause, but for himself, even if he is a champion of transparency, the process loses its dignity. The campaign turns into a spectacle of mercy, not a competition of ideas and programs. From a request for support, it slips into political charity. And the candidate, whom I know personally and do not believe to be corrupt, instead of talking about transparency, buries it with his own hands, because any help given is no longer seen as a civic act, but as a purchase of influence in the future.

Although donations around the world are a normal thing and a well-known practice, the experience in Albania has shown the opposite.

"Donations" in Albania were the financing with which all corrupt affairs were purchased!

And with these absurd demands, although modern in appearance, there is no longer a campaign, no ideal, there is only a candidate waving his hat in his hand, hoping for some money and calling it "civic participation".

In this political “GoFundMe,” the candidate loses more public dignity than votes he gains

Meanwhile, the real opposition is "beating its head with fists" as it looks at which individual it is imposing on its electorate to support and calculates the post-election costs in the party, its structure, and its militants.
