Breaking from concerts/ British singer Adele to debut in Tom Ford film

World-famous British singer Adele is stepping away from the concert stage for a moment and stepping in front of the camera.

The pop star will star in the upcoming film from Tom Ford, who returns to the big screen with an adaptation of Anne Rice's novel Cry to Heaven.

Adele joins an impressive cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kieran Hinds, Thandie Newton, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Hunter Shaffer, Daryl McCormack, George MacKay, Paul Bettany and rising star Owen Cooper.

The film deals with two unlikely allies competing for a place in the opera elite: a Venetian nobleman and a castrated Calabrian conductor.

Rice's novel, on which the screenplay is based, was described as "bold and full of sensuality, luxury and music" by the New York Times Book Review, while the Washington Post called it "an immersion into a fascinating and unknown world." /CNA
