A psychotherapist and relationship expert has revealed eight hard truths that will "improve your life", even if they're hard to hear.

Todd Baratz, who lives in New York and is a certified mental health counselor, argues that many of the problems his clients face are either self-inflicted or perpetuated.

He says he has noticed that his clients often unconsciously "seek out pain and suffering" because of trauma or experiences they carry from childhood.
