Scientists discover how to create electricity from "air"

Scientists studying a variety of bacteria responsible for tuberculosis and leprosy have discovered an enzyme that converts hydrogen into electricity, and they think it could be used to create a new, clean source of energy.

The enzyme, which has been named Huc, is used by the bacterium Mycobacterium smegmatis to extract energy from hydrogen, enabling it to survive in extreme, nutrient-poor environments.

By analyzing the enzyme, researchers say they have found a new source of energy that could be used to power a variety of small portable electrical devices.

They published their findings on March 8 in the journal Nature, according to foreign media.

"We think a power source containing Huc could power a variety of small portable devices using air, including biometric sensors, environmental monitors, digital clocks and simple calculators or computers," said lead study author Rhys Grinter. who works as a microbiologist at Monash University in Australia./ CNA.al
