The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, under the presidency of His Beatitude, Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, Monsignor Joan, met today, April 28, 2026, and unanimously elected Archimandrite Ignat (Todrin) as Bishop of the Holy Episcopate of Amantia, who, according to the Statute of the Church, will be a member of the Holy Synod.

The ordination of the newly elected Bishop will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral in Tirana.

 

Short biography

The newly elected Bishop of Amantia, Ignati, was born on February 23, 1978 in Gradishte, Divjaka. He completed his general education at the school in Fier-Seman. In 1998, he studied at the Theological Academy “Ngjallja e Kristi” in Shën Vlash, Durrës.

From 2003 to 2017, he served as a catechist and preacher in the cities and villages of the Holy Metropolis of Berat, Vlora and Kanina.

In April 2017, he followed the call to full monastic dedication and was ordained a monk and hierodeacon by the late Metropolitan of Berat, Vlora and Kanina, His Grace Ignati, under whom he served with devotion and dedication.

He was ordained Hieromonk on December 12, 2024, by the Metropolitan of Berat, Vlora and Kanina, His Grace Asti.

On June 1, 2025, His Beatitude Archbishop Joan bestowed upon him the office of Archimandrite.

Throughout this period, he has served in high duties and responsibilities in the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania: as Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, head of the "Resurrection of Christ" Theological Academy at the Monastery of Saint Vlash, and head of the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral in Tirana.

In addition to his native language, he speaks English, Italian, Greek and German.
