"Mjeda Days", on the eve of the 110th anniversary of the declaration

"Days of Mjeda" brought together researchers and local authorities today in the "Ndre Mjeda" museum center, built in recent years in the village of Kukël in the municipality of Vau i Dejës, where the poet spent most of his life. According to the researcher Dom Nikë Ukgjini, the Jesuit priest Ndre Mjeda was one of the prominent activists of the National Renaissance, who stood out for his extensive contribution in the field of literature, the Albanian language, teaching and efforts to defend the national issue.

“Përkujtojmë poetin Ndre Mjeda për të gjithë ato vepra madhore që i ka realizuar gjatë jetës tokësore, pra si poet, përkthyes, qoftë edhe si njeri diplomat dhe politikan, sepse nga viti 1920-1924 ka qenë edhe deputet me Fishtën dhe Gurakuqin”.

Sipas profesor Artan Haxhit, në formimin e tij, Ndre Mjeda ishte edhe një gjuhëtarë që, përmes krijimtarisë së tij letrare dhe veprimtarisë shkencore, u përpoq për mbarëvajtjen e gjuhës shqipe në një periudhë të rëndësishme të nxitjes së vetëdijes kombëtare tek shqiptarët.

“Kontributi i tij është i jashtëzakonshëm edhe në alfabetin e gjuhës shqipe. Është anëtar i shoqërisë “Agimi” dhe ndër hartuesit e alfabetit të shoqërisë “Agimi”, i cili u paraqit edhe në Kongresin e Manastirit, në vitin 1908”.

" Despite the fact that Dom Ndre Mjeda was not at the declaration of Independence, he remained connected to Ismail Qemali's government throughout the period. From the end of 1912, Luigj Gurakuqi came to Shkodër to organize the establishment of the rule of the government of Vlora and, among the main ones who would deal with this work, was Dom Ndre Mjeda .
