Former Senior Director of the State Police, Shemsi Prençi, spoke this evening regarding the incident that occurred in Mamurras, during an operation to capture a 23-year-old man who was wanted for attempted murder.

In a television appearance, Prençi praised the officers' reaction in today's case, as according to him, the police are untrained to open fire at certain moments to neutralize a dangerous and armed person.

According to him, the police in Mamurras cannot enter unorganized, as according to him, there have been hundreds of cases of the "strongmen" of that area attacking the police, or as happened today, trying to run them over with a car.

"We should have had a Kalashnikov here and shot in the air, thank goodness the police shot. It's been a long time since police officers have been on duty and are untrained to open fire at certain moments to neutralize the armed element. In Albania, the number has reached 230 or so police officers killed in 35 years. In the case of Mamurras, there was accurate information, but it is not known how long ago it came, was it of the moment or of the past. I think it was of the moment. It was of the moment because the Lezha Police Directorate engaged the Operational Forces of the directorate and there was no time to wait for specialized structures such as RENEA and FNSH.

"Unorganized police are not allowed to enter Mamurras. Hundreds of times it has happened that groups of strongmen have attacked police officers, especially in Mamurras-Laç there have been attempts to crush officers with a car. I thank them for using the first weapon for self-defense, the second because they were dealing with a person with high risk because he had a weapon in his hand. They are used to seeing patrols with people, in this case they understood that it was an operation. I commend the work done by the Lezha police, who have intervened to resolve an issue for which they received information from the Italian side ," he said.
