Internationally wanted/ Ervin Mata arrested

On Saturday evening, the Federal Police in Ilhabela, on the coast of São Paulo, arrested Ervin Mata, for whom there is an international arrest warrant issued by Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The arrest was carried out with the assistance of the local Military Police.

According to the Military Police, the suspect, who was wanted internationally for drug trafficking, was arrested in the center of Ilhabela, after intelligence information indicated that he had traveled from the Baixada Santista region on the northern coast.

During a patrol, Mata was found inside a commercial premises, where he was arrested and taken to the Federal Police Station in São Sebastião. During the operation, two mobile phones and documents belonging to the suspect were seized.

The arrest warrant was issued by Moraes last September, after Albania requested that Brazilian authorities detain the foreigner. The big businessman Ervin Mata is accused in his country of drug trafficking, participation in a criminal organization and criminal association.

According to investigations, he is suspected of coordinating the transport of 240 kg of cocaine to Frankfurt, Germany, in September 2020. After that, according to authorities, he left Europe and was a fugitive in Brazil.

Accused of coordinating members of the criminal group he was part of to traffic 240 kilograms of cocaine, the 39-year-old has been arrested in Brazil.

The 39-year-old was hiding in Brazil, using forged English identification documents.

The criminal group, with activities in Albania, South America and Europe, was investigated as part of a SPAK criminal proceeding in 2023, in cooperation with EUROJUST, EUROPOL and law enforcement agencies of 6 countries.

As a result of the exchange and coordination of information, in real time, between specialists of the Interpol Directorate and counterparts of Interpol Brasilia, within the framework of the international operation codenamed "The Wanted", the Albanian citizen, declared internationally wanted, EM, 39 years old, was captured in Brazil.

The Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, in 2023, assigned this citizen the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses "Trafficking in narcotics", committed within the framework of a structured criminal group, and "Committing criminal offenses by a criminal organization and a structured criminal group".

In 2023, during a proceeding registered by SPAK, investigations were conducted, in cooperation with EUROJUST, EUROPOL and Belgian, French, Dutch, German, Brazilian and Colombian law enforcement agencies, regarding several Albanian citizens involved in criminal activities in Albania, South America and several European countries.

Investigations have also been conducted in relation to several previous criminal events that occurred in Albania.

Within the framework of this proceeding, citizen EM is suspected of having coordinated his associates to traffic 240 kg of the narcotic substance Cocaine, on 29.09.2020.

The 39-year-old was arrested in the town of Ilha Bela, and was using forged English identification documents.

Interpol Tirana continues to cooperate with Interpol Brasilia to finalize the procedure for the extradition of citizen EM to Albania.
