Iranian officials said the fire that broke out at the Shadegan oil field has been extinguished, claiming the incident was an act of sabotage.

The fire broke out earlier on September 13 after "the intervention of unknown elements", but the fire was quickly brought under control, said Qobad Nasseri, head of the Maroon Oil and Gas Production Company.

State news agency IRNA later reported that the fire had been extinguished.

"Now the damage is being assessed, but production will soon resume in the oil field," Nasseri told state television.
