Vu?i?: Serbia still has work to do, ready for TV debate with protesters

Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? today clarified the situation with the protests in the country and reiterated his call for dialogue with demonstrators, nine months after ongoing protests across the country.

In an interview with a European media outlet, Vu?i? said that Serbia and its government remain committed to dialogue despite the demonstrators' refusal to accept his offers for a public debate or early elections.

To this end, he has reiterated his offer to the demonstrators to sit down for a public debate in an open conversation, which he said he has put on the table many times before.

"This was not my first call. In fact, it was my fifth or sixth call for dialogue, for an open conversation. I also offered them an open televised debate. They can choose the premise, they can choose the studio. And I was ready to discuss it publicly because I believe that talks, conversations, dialogue are not an alternative at all," Vu?i? explained.

The series of protests across Serbia were initially in response to the accident in the northern regional capital of Novi Sad, where a train station canopy collapsed in November 2024, resulting in the deaths of 16 people./ CNA
