State visit to Qatar/ President Trump announces new plans in the Middle East

US President Donald Trump paid a state visit to Qatar today. Trump arrived in Qatar on the second leg of his Middle East trip.

Earlier, Trump met with Syrian leader Ahmad al-Sharaa, a former jihadist who led the overthrow of the Assad regime. The meeting in Riyadh came a day after Trump said he planned to lift sanctions on Syria.

Trump announced plans to lift punitive sanctions that have damaged the Syrian economy. While in the Qatari capital, Doha, Trump is taking part in a state visit that is scheduled to include a state dinner with Qatari leaders.

Among other things, Trump announced Qatar Airways' major purchase of Boeing jets. Trump said the order was for 160 planes and claimed it was the largest order in Boeing's history./CNA
