The plenary of the National Assembly of Turkey voted today in favor of extending for another two years, starting from January 2, 2024, the validity of the presidential decree on the Turkish military presence in Libya, writes Protothema.
The presidential decree to send Turkish soldiers to Libya was first approved on January 2, 2020.
"The continuation of the cease-fire process and political dialogue in Libya, as well as the consolidation of peace and stability as a result of this process, are of great importance for Turkey," says the decree signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan .
"Dangers and threats emanating from Libya still exist for Turkey. In the event of resumption of attacks against the legitimate government, Turkey's interests in both the Mediterranean basin and North Africa will be negatively affected," according to the same text, which underlines that "preventing the recurrence of conflicts is important to ensured the conclusion of the military and political negotiations held under the auspices of the UN" in the North African country./ CNA
