Athens is escalating its reactions against the imprisonment of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri.

According to information, today in COREPER (Council of Permanent Representatives of EU Member States) Greece has presented its reservations regarding the progress of Albania's accession process, making it clear that it will not give its consent to the progress of Albania's membership negotiations if there are no positive developments regarding the assumption of office by the elected head of the Municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri.

In October, Greece did not accept the sending of the so-called letter of the 27th for the opening of a series of chapters at the starting point of Albania's EU membership negotiations.

On December 4, the Tirana court will examine, after many months of obstruction, the request of Fredi Beleri to give him permission to take the oath, while the normal trial will take place on the accusations of vote buying against him. The trial for this conspiracy, which failed after the main prosecution witness admitted that he had connections with the police and was paid from secret funds, is expected to continue on December 5 in Tirana.

Athens, with the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, and with the mission to Tirana of the Minister of State, Stavros Papastavros, who visited Fredi Beleri in the prisons of Durrës, has sent a clear message that it will use every means of pressure at its disposal. available, to overturn this arbitrary and political criminal prosecution against the elected mayor of Himara, who brutally violates the law of the state in Albania./ CNA
