Survey: 9 in 10 Europeans would consider moving abroad

Almost half of people living in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom expect to, at some point in the future, live in another country, a new survey has found.

The survey, conducted on behalf of digital insurance company Feather, found that the cost of living crisis is the main reason people are considering a life abroad. This reason was cited by 53 percent of Britons, 48 ??percent of French, 43 percent of Germans and 32 percent of Italians.

Only one in ten Europeans in each of the markets included in the survey — which surveyed 500 adults in each country — said they would never move abroad.

Although the most popular destination varies from country to country, Spain is the clear winner.

Both the British and Italians ranked Spain as their preferred choice, with 24 percent and 20 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the country came in second in France and Germany, where 16 percent and 12 percent of respondents cited it as their top choice.

For the French, Canada was the number one choice, with 17 percent saying they would like to live there in the future. It was followed by Italy, selected by 14 percent of respondents.

Germans don't seem to want to leave their country very much. Around 17 percent chose Austria, while Spain and Switzerland came in next, with 12 percent each.

The British, on the other hand, are fully willing to move to far-flung destinations: 19 percent chose Australia, 15 percent Canada and 10 percent New Zealand.

Although Dubai is often mentioned as a popular destination for expats, only 3 percent of Britons said they were considering it. However, the survey was conducted at the end of June, so the responses were undoubtedly influenced by Iranian attacks on the UAE in recent months./Euronews
