Tragedy averted in Germany/ Hundreds evacuated after nightclub catches fire

About 750 people were evacuated without injury after a fire engulfed a nightclub in southwestern Germany. According to police, the fire broke out at around 3:45 a.m. at the K Club, a nightclub in Kehl, near the French border.

The fire then spread throughout the building, while the 750 people inside managed to escape. Three people were treated by emergency services but were not taken to hospital.

Images published by German media showed a large fire on the roof of the club, which was located in an industrial area of ??the city.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, which is still unknown. The incident came months after a fire at a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana killed 41 people and injured 115 others.

Unlike the fire in Crans-Montana, the evacuation process in Kehl appears to have gone smoothly. /CNA
