Washington Post: Pentagon preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran

According to US officials quoted by the 'Washington Post', the Pentagon is preparing for several weeks of ground operations in Iran, while thousands of US soldiers and marines are being deployed to the Middle East.

A decision to move to a new phase of the conflict will reportedly be up to President Donald Trump. Such a move is considered high-risk for US troops, who could face increased threats, including Iranian drones, missiles and improvised explosive devices.

Sources emphasize that a possible ground operation would not constitute a full-scale invasion, but could include targeted attacks by special operations forces and infantry units.

It is not yet clear whether the US president will approve all, some, or none of the plans proposed by the Pentagon.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has given mixed signals in recent days, moving between declarations of an imminent end to the war and warnings of further escalation.

While Trump himself has expressed a willingness to negotiate a solution to the conflict, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt warned that if Tehran does not give up its nuclear ambitions and stop threats against the US and its allies, the president is "ready to unleash hell" against it.

However, on Saturday, Vice President JD Vance stated that the conflict is not expected to last long.
