  UN chief Guterres: All parties should commit to US peace plan for Gaza

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all parties to commit to the peace plan for Gaza presented by US President Donald Trump.

"It is now essential that all parties commit to an agreement and its implementation... He reiterates once again his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire," Farhan Haq, a spokesman for Guterres, said in a statement.

The UN chief said the priority must be to alleviate the extraordinary suffering caused by the devastating conflict since the October 7 attacks.

"He reiterates once again his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access to all of Gaza and for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and hopes that this will create the conditions that allow for the realization of the two-state solution," Gutierrez said.

Hamas has yet to respond to Washington's 20-point peace plan, which has the support of Israel and the wider international community. Hamas' leadership was not consulted about it before the announcement, but was briefed on the details by Qatari and Egyptian mediators later on Monday, according to news reports. /CNA
