Tens of thousands of people are expected to gather Saturday at the Lincoln Memorial in the nation's capital, Washington, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the pastor and civil rights leader's famous "I Have A Dream" speech. civil Martin Luther King Jr.

The march on Washington is organized by the National Action Network, an organization that operates in the field of civil rights, as well as members of the King family.

Organizers hope this year's march will recapture the energy of the original march on Washington, especially in the face of voting rights concerns across the country, the blowback to policies that favored college admissions of individuals who belong to groups considered subject to discrimination, or concerns about abortion rights and growing threats of political violence based on hatred against people of color, Jews and members of the LGBTQ community.

The August 28, 1963 March on Washington drew 250,000 people and helped further the passage of federal civil rights and voting rights legislation.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will mark the anniversary of the march on Monday, which coincides with the day of the march, by meeting with organizers of the 1963 rally. White House officials said all of the King children are invited to meet with President Biden./VOA
