Historic! About 9.5 tons of cocaine were seized in the banana container

An unprecedented crackdown on drug trafficking has taken place in Spain.

Police have seized a total of 9,436 kilograms of cocaine at the Port of Algeciras (Cádiz), in what represents a "historic" crackdown on drug trafficking.

This is the largest shipment of cocaine in the national territory. 

The container contained bananas in the first pallets, but they had a small layer of bananas and underneath, the cocaine pills. 

The organization operated through a company dedicated to the international trade of bananas located in Machala (Ecuador). 

This discovery is "the most important in the history of Spain in the seizure of cocaine" and constitutes "an extraordinary success in the fight against drug trafficking".

This bust surpasses the last large cocaine shipment also seized in Algeciras in 2018, when a container of bananas from Colombia was seized with a total of 8,740 kilograms of the drug./ CNA
