Session on the new government/ Osmani: If there is no agreement, I will invite

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani said that if there is no agreement on the formation of the new Kosovo Government in Sunday's session, then she will invite parties to see if any can secure the necessary 61 votes.

"If there is no agreement, then as president I will invite all political parties to see if there is a possibility for someone to form a majority ," Osmani said in an interview with Deutsche Welle in Albanian.

At 10:00 on Sunday, a session was called with the only item on the agenda: the election of the Government of Kosovo.

Osmani has mandated the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, to form the government, after his party won the February 9 elections. However, it is unclear whether Kurti has the 61 votes needed to form the executive.

"I think it is too early to talk about extraordinary elections, but it is an alternative if a majority is not created. In fact, it remains the only alternative according to the Constitution ," emphasized President Osmani.

According to the Constitution, if Kurti fails to form the Government, then Osmani has the duty within ten days to invite the parties for consultations and decide on the prime minister who has the greatest chances of forming the Government.

If the government cannot be formed even after the second attempt, President Osmani, according to the Constitution, must announce new elections, which must be held within 40 days. On October 21, Kurti hinted that the LVV could fail to form the executive, stating that “it seems that the alternative is that we will go to elections again.”

His party won 48 seats in the February 9 elections. This party has previously ruled out the possibility of cooperating with the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Serbian List to form a government. The PDK has 24 seats, the Democratic League of Kosovo has 20 deputies, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo - Nisma coalition has eight seats in the Assembly.

The Serb community has ten guaranteed seats in the Kosovo Assembly - nine of which were won by the Serb List, while one seat was won by Nenad Raši? of the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival. Ten other parliamentary seats are reserved for other minority communities. /REL
