Anti-advertisement on tariffs "puts the stamp"/ Trump announces

US President Donald Trump has announced the immediate termination of all trade negotiations with Canada, due to an advertisement criticizing the tariffs he has announced against the country.

The ad, sponsored by leaders of the Canadian province of Ontario, quoted Trump's predecessor, Ronald Reagan, saying the tariffs "hurt every American."

President Trump reacted immediately after this through a post on social media, saying that the ad was "false" and "scandalous", adding that trade talks had ended with this action.

The Trump administration has imposed a 35% tax on many Canadian imports, as well as individual tariffs targeting specific industries such as auto manufacturing and steel. Ontario has been hit particularly hard by these tariffs.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, since his election earlier this year, has been trying to broker a deal that would ease U.S. tariffs. That has been complicated by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who is one of the biggest critics of the taxes imposed on U.S. firms that buy Canadian products. /CNA
