Tragedy off the coast of Bodrum/ Buggy sinks, 14 migrants die

A serious incident occurred on Wednesday evening off the coast of Bodrum, in southwestern Turkey, when a dinghy carrying illegal immigrants sank. As a result, 14 people lost their lives.

The Turkish Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation after a call just after 1 a.m. from an Afghan national who managed to reach a rocky area and call for help.

According to reports, the dinghy carrying 18 migrants sank ten minutes after setting off. Turkish Coast Guard vessels recovered the bodies of 14 people, while two others were rescued.

Meanwhile, the search and rescue operation continues to find the remaining two people. Four Turkish Coast Guard ships and a helicopter are participating in the operation. /CNA
