Election of the new government/ Session to be held in the Kosovo Assembly on

A session to elect the new Government of Kosovo will be held in the Kosovo Assembly on Sunday, October 26 at 10:00, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has learned.

The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, as the winner of the February 9 elections, has received the mandate from Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani to form the new Government of Kosovo. However, it is still unclear whether he has the 61 votes needed to form the new executive.

On October 21, Kurti hinted that the LVV could fail to form the executive, stating that "it seems that the alternative is that we will go to elections again."

"It's not easy, because, I don't know how to explain it to you, maybe you've heard it yourself, the atmosphere has become very intoxicated, there is a lot of jealousy, anger and cynicism, much more than ideas, work and passion. But, we are where we are and we will try to form the Government. But, it seems, the alternative is that we will go to elections again ," Kurti said.

Osmani mandated Kurti to form the Government on October 11, and he has until October 26 to present the new government composition to the Parliament and seek support for it.

LVV has 48 MPs in the 120-seat Parliament. This party has previously ruled out the possibility of cooperating with the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Serbian List to form a government.

In the event that LVV fails to collect 61 votes, President Osmani has the duty within ten days to invite the parties for consultations and decide on the candidate who has the greatest chances of forming the Government.

If the government cannot be formed even after the second attempt, President Osmani, according to the Constitution, must announce new elections, which must be held within 40 days. /REL
