Vladimir Putin has called on Russian women to have eight or more children as the death toll in Ukraine continues to rise.

In a speech on Tuesday, he said that increasing Russia's population and making large families "the norm" was "our goal for the coming decades," Sky News reported, citing The Independent.

"Many of our peoples preserve the tradition of the family, where four, five or more children grow up, " he said.
