Serbian Parliament confirms resignation of Prime Minister Vu?evi?/ Formation

The Serbian Parliament confirmed on Wednesday the resignation of Prime Minister Miloš Vu?evi?, during the broadcast of the day's parliamentary session.

The government said in a press release that it will now operate under a technical mandate, meaning that only current and urgent tasks will be carried out.

After the confirmation of Vu?evi?'s resignation, a new government must be formed within 30 days. If a new government is not formed within this deadline, parliamentary elections are automatically announced and political parties are given 45-60 days for the election campaign.

Vucevic resigned in January amid a wave of mass student-led protests that swept the country since a fatal train station accident in the northern city of Novi Sad in November.

Serbia's coalition government led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) took office in May 2024 after snap elections held in December 2023. The SNS has been in power in Serbia since 2012.

On February 28, President Aleksandar Vu?i? said he expects the new government to be formed by April 10. /CNA
