Violent protests after the tragedy in Kocani/ Residents gather in the main

Residents of Kocani, North Macedonia, gathered today in the city's main square to demand the resignation of local officials following the weekend's deadly nightclub fire.

These drone footage have caused a stir in all foreign media.

Thousands of people gathered to demand justice for the 59 people killed in the fire and called for an end to the corruption they say is behind the country's worst disaster in years.

The fire broke out during a hip hop concert in the town of Kocani at around 3am on Sunday when sparks from the flames ignited a section of the ceiling. Hundreds of people scrambled for the unlicensed venue's only exit as flames spread to the roof.

The incident devastated the town of 25,000 people, 80 km east of the capital Skopje.

Bulldozers and shovel workers dug up a row of graves in the city's cemetery on Monday. People with lost loved ones are lining up outside the hospital to provide DNA samples in case their relatives cannot be immediately identified. /CNA
