A few hours after Trump's warnings, the US launches attacks on Iran

The US launched a round of air strikes against Iran this evening, hours after President Donald Trump said the ceasefire between the two countries was over.

US Central Command announced the attacks in a response published on the "X" platform.

"At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have begun conducting additional strikes against Iran to further disrupt its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States is holding Iran accountable for its recent unprovoked aggression against merchant ships and civilian crews navigating freely in a vital international waterway ," the statement said. 

Earlier this evening, Iranian media reported explosions in the south of the country, in Bandar Abbas and Sirik. At the NATO summit in Turkey today, Trump vowed to strike Iran again after the attacks carried out the night before. The attacks last night and tonight were in retaliation after three merchant ships passing through the Strait were shot down by Iran earlier this week. /CNA
