The teenage son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has been appointed as his father's bodyguard and observer in a new battalion that is part of the Russian defense ministry's forces.

The news was announced by a senior Chechen official, while Reuters reports that Adam Kadyrov turned 16 just a week ago.

Earlier in September, Adam appeared in a social media video posted by his father Ramzan Kadyrov punching and kicking a prisoner accused of burning the Koran.

The video sparked backlash, but Ramzan Kadyrov, a staunch ally of President Vladimir Putin, said at the time that he was proud of his son and respected Adam for upholding the ideals of honor, dignity and defending his religion.

"This appointment was a natural result of Adam's important services in preserving the religious, family and cultural values ??of our people," Delimkhanov, who is known as Chechnya's second-highest official after Kadyrov, wrote on Telegram.

The Chechen rifle battalion was created at the beginning of this month and is now part of the forces of the Russian Ministry of Defense./ CNA
