Russia's Central Election Commission has rejected the application of a candidate calling for peace to run in next year's presidential election.
The commission said there were "errors in the documents" submitted by Yekaterina Duntsova, a former journalist and municipal councilor who campaigned "for peace and democratic processes", Russian media reported.
The head of the Commission, Ella Pamfilova, said that the members of the commission unanimously rejected Duntsova's application to run in the elections, which President Vladimir Putin is expected to win easily.
The commission said that Duntsova cannot go to the new stage to collect the signatures of thousands of her supporters.
Pamfilova told her: "You are a young woman, you have everything in front of you."
Duntsova, 40 years old, submitted the documents to participate in the March elections as an independent candidate.
Pamfilova said on Saturday that 29 people have so far applied to run in the presidential elections.
For years, Moscow has denied participation in elections and political life to opposition figures, repression that has intensified after the Kremlin ordered troops to be sent to Ukraine in early 2022./ REL
