Russia, major drone attack in Kiev

The Russian military launched a drone attack on Ukraine's capital, Kiev, on Friday morning, injuring two people and causing property damage.

It was the sixth such attack in the Ukrainian capital this month and part of a large swarm of drones that hit parts of central, southern and western Ukraine, the Ukrainian air force said.

Ukraine's air defense said it shot down 24 of the 28 drones that attacked it.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram that a drone had hit a residential building in the Solomianski district, south of the city center, causing a fire in its upper floors.

The fire was extinguished very quickly, according to him.

Emergency services said several apartments were damaged on the 24th, 25th and 26th floors of the high-rise apartment building.

Two people were injured, one of whom is being treated in the hospital.

The incident happened hundreds of meters away from a maternity hospital.

Klitschko also said that drone shrapnel set fire to a house under construction in the Darnitski neighborhood on the east bank of the Dnieper River. He said there were no injuries there.

Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, reported that shrapnel from the downed drones fell on a residential building in another suburb, Holosivski, south of the city center.
