North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Pyongyang will not hesitate to launch a nuclear attack if an enemy provokes it with nuclear weapons, the state news agency reported on Thursday.

The North Korean leader made the comments during a meeting with soldiers serving under the military umbrella of the missile division regarding the latest military exercise and test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), KCNA news agency said.

"He said that the recent military activity was a clear explanation of the way of counterattack and the advances of the nuclear strategy and doctrine of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea not to hesitate with a nuclear attack when the enemy provokes it with nuclear weapons" , the KCNA news agency said.

North Korea said on Tuesday it had tested its latest intercontinental ballistic missile to assess the combat readiness of its nuclear force against growing US hostilities.

The United States and its allies have condemned North Korea's latest ballistic missile test.

The North Korean leader said Monday's test demonstrated the military's superior and rapid strike capabilities, while calling for increased efforts to further strengthen its combat effectiveness, KCNA reported.

In a separate statement, the North Korean leader's sister, Kim Yo Jong, condemned the United Nations Security Council for holding a meeting on Pyongyang's evidence, saying her country exercised its right to evidence in self-defense.

"The United Nations Security Council must hold the United States and South Korea accountable for the actions and irresponsible acts that have worsened the tension on the Korean peninsula through various military provocations throughout the year ," she said./ VOA
