Fashion giant Zara is facing protests and calls for a boycott from activists over its latest ad campaign.
Critics accused the fashion giant of being insensitive to the deaths in war-torn Gaza after images from the ad showed mannequins with missing limbs and a model in a wooden box and surrounded by rubble.
Other images, which now appear to have been removed from the firm's Instagram page, show supermodel Kirsten McMenamy posing with a mannequin wrapped in white sheeting and plastic.
Some users said the images were similar to photos taken in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas war of dead bodies wrapped in white shrouds.
There was a flurry of backlash online after the campaign, with posts calling it embarrassing, disgusting and mocking.
Artist Hazem Harb wrote in a post on Instagram: “There is a depravity in the commercial mind that produced this ad, while we are living a genocide in real time.
Using death and destruction as a backdrop for fashion is beyond evil, its complicity, and should infuriate us as consumers. Boycott Zara," he said./ CNA
