A Kosovo police officer was found dead this Sunday.

It is about the officer Rexhep Sejdiu. He lost his life while on duty at the Border Rapid Intervention Unit Station in Jarinje.

Sejdiu was found without signs of life by his colleagues at the workplace, where he had been resting.

From the preliminary information, the causes of this event are still unknown.

"Around 07:20, the police officer was found dead during his shift in Jarinje. His colleagues found him dead, a few hours after he had laid down to rest. He was resting at his workplace. An autopsy will be performed on Monday. Death is most likely natural. The burial of the deceased will take place tomorrow", said the deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani.

The Minister of Interior of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, also reacted to this event, who expressed his condolences to the family of the former police officer.

"It is with deep sadness that I received the news of the death of police officer Rexhep Sejdiu while he was on duty at the Border Rapid Intervention Unit Station in Jarinje.

We will remember Rexhep Sejdiu as a dedicated and tireless official, engaged in the fight against all criminality, especially in recent years in the north of our country as a member of the Border Rapid Intervention Unit. Together with his colleagues, Rexhepi a year ago steadfastly resisted the 19-day blockade in Jarinje after the former police officer Dejan Pantic was arrested.

Police officer Rexhep Sejdiu will forever remain in the minds of all of us who were lucky enough to meet him at the level of duty and colleagues who worked and served with him every day.

I express my sincerest condolences to his family, his mother, wife and children. To all the colleagues of the Kosovo Police for the loss of their member", said Sveçla.
