A rare weather phenomenon has been recorded in Germany. A large sandstorm from the Sahara has arrived in southwestern Germany this Tuesday afternoon.

In southern Germany, the sky was occasionally covered in dust, while the same thing happened in large parts of Spain.

The sandstorm also reached North Rhine-Westphalia and Cologne. The sky looked cloudy and slightly reddish. Sunrises and sunsets seem more powerful than usual.

The sky has turned yellow, orange and in some places crimson.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the sandstorm could last until the night hours. But in the second half of the night, denser clouds will appear. 

Thursday morning, rain coming from the northwest will partially wash away the particles and transport them southeast.

Experts say that the Sahara sandstorm is not enough to be dangerous for people and animals. 

However, it is not good for one's health if one breathes intensively in the dust of the Sahara for a particularly long period of time./ CNA
