Russian drones threatened Ismail River port

Ukraine's air force on Wednesday said a large group of Russian military drones entered the mouth of the Danube River and headed for the Izmail River port near the border with Romania, The Guardian reports.

Social media groups reported hearing gunfire from air defense systems in the area near the two Danube ports of Izmail and Reni.

The governor of the southern Odesa region, Oleh Kiper, asked residents of the Izmail district to take shelter around 1:30 a.m. and canceled the airstrike alert an hour later.

Ukraine's Danube ports accounted for about a quarter of wheat exports before Russia pulled out of a UN-backed deal to ensure safe passage for Ukrainian wheat exports via the Black Sea. Since then, they have become the main exit route, with grain sent by barge to Romania's Black Sea port of Constanta for onward shipment.
