Months after HPAI outbreak, EU restores poultry imports from Brazil

The EU has lifted a ban on poultry imports from Brazil, four months after they were banned due to an outbreak of bird flu.

The European Commission has started to gradually lift temporary restrictions on the import of poultry products from Brazil.

"Provided that the epidemiological status remains stable, the second step, as of October 2, will be the lifting of restrictions in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, except for the 10 km radius around the outbreak which will be definitively reopened by October 16," the spokesperson added.

Brazil has not reported new outbreaks since mid-May 2025, when it notified the World Organization for Animal Health that it had suspended its status as free from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), following the detection of bird flu on a commercial farm in Rio Grande do Sul. /CNA
