Blinken, in France/ What will he discuss with Macron?

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, will discuss support for Ukraine during talks to be held in Paris next week with French President Emmanuel Macron, the US State Department announced.

France is among the biggest military suppliers to Ukraine, which has faced repeated Russian attacks since Moscow launched its invasion of the neighboring country in February 2022.

US President Joe Biden's request for billions of dollars in military aid to Kiev has been blocked in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

"Secretary Blinken will meet with President Macron to discuss support for Ukraine, efforts to prevent the escalation of the conflict in Gaza and a number of other important topics," DASH spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters.

France has called for a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas - the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the US and the European Union - while the US, Israel's main ally, recently allowed the United Nations Security Council to approve a resolution that called for a ceasefire during the month of Ramadan.

This will be Blinken's first visit to France in almost two years. Meanwhile, Macron last stayed in Washington in December 2022.

After Paris, Blinken will stay in Brussels for talks with NATO foreign ministers before the summit that will be held in July in Washington for the 75th anniversary of the alliance./ REL
