The defense lawyer of Hashim Thaçi, speaking about the period after the liberation of Kosovo and the start of the administration of Kosovo by UNMIK, said that crimes may have occurred at the local level with motives of revenge.

"Localized acts of individual violence fueled by anger, hatred, lack of accountability were inevitable," Kehoe said, saying people returning from evictions found their properties burned and damaged.

"The acts of violence were often caused by criminals, the bad elements of the KLA, people who presented themselves as KLA, wearing uniforms bought on the streets of Pristina and elsewhere," the lawyer continued.

He also presented a part of the interview given in July 1999 by former NATO general Wesley Clark regarding revenge crimes against local Serbs.

"There are hundreds and thousands of people who are turning back. Terrible things have happened, but there are also Serbs who think they will be guilty because of their ethnicity. There are legitimate efforts to return properties to their owners. It's a period when revenge is being taken, scores are being settled", Clark was quoted as saying./ Rel
