Kallas' strong accusation: Russia is helping Iran kill Americans

The EU's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, has accused Russia of helping Iran "kill Americans" and target US bases by providing intelligence and drones.

She said Washington must put more pressure on Moscow if it wants Iran to stop the attacks. Kallas made these statements ahead of a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in France.

"We're seeing that Russia is helping Iran with intelligence to target Americans, to kill Americans. Russia is now also supporting Iran with drones so that they can attack neighboring countries, as well as American military bases.

"These wars are very interconnected. If America wants the war in the Middle East to stop, Iran to stop the attacks, then they should also put pressure on Russia so that they are not able to help them ," Kallas said.

The war is expected to dominate two days of G7 ministerial talks, which US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will join on Friday. EU leaders have highlighted Russia's support for Iran as a key reason for Europe to continue to pressure the Kremlin over the war in Ukraine.

The comments come as European criticism of the US decision to attack Iran grows, particularly amid rising global energy prices. /CNA
