US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today that progress has been made in negotiations with Iran, but declined to provide details about who he has held discussions with.
"There are intermediary countries that are conveying messages and there has been progress, there has been concrete progress. The negotiations are an ongoing and fluid process," Rubio said shortly before leaving for a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in France.
Asked if he would ask other G7 countries to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Rubio said it is in their interest to help.
"Other countries get a lot more fuel from there than we do," Rubio noted.
Special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed earlier in the day at President Donald Trump's cabinet meeting that the US has been negotiating with Iran through diplomatic channels with Pakistan. /CNA
